Begun in 2000 and stretching through to 2016, this body of work draws its content from environmental and social issues of the times. Several of these works take the form of 'countdowns' - where numbers lurk just below the surface of the paintings, counting down, towards zero. The use of carefully modulated colour harmonies moves these works beautifully towards unhappy endings. Dealing with such topics as the introduction of exotic species, the degradation of the earth's atmosphere, clear-felling of ancient Tasmanian forests (Styx) and others, these works have fed directly into 'The Meaning of (Still) Life: An Unnatural History' series of works, currently in production.
