RE_iterate (Back-Again) Environmentally themed landscape paintings
RE_iterate is a body of expanded landscapes shaped by my daily encounters with Brisbane’s Toohey Forest, an island of native bushland embedded within the city. Responding to this unique site, the artworks bring language and image into a direct dialogue, inviting reflection on the enduring value of a remnant landscape. Central to this inquiry is a deliberate engagement with wordplay, anchored by the prefix ‘RE_’ - denoting repetition, undoing, or a return to a former state. By rendering these words as heavy, three-dimensional typographic panels, the work physically disrupts the traditions of landscape painting, forcing a contemporary dialogue between the organic depths of the forest and the codified authority of language.
